Parimal Suklabaidya hands over scooty-keys to 1307 meritorious students of Cachar
1307 meritious students of the Cachar district were presented the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award on Tuesday in Silchar. The female students who secured First Division and the male students who secured 75 per cent and above in the last higher secondary examination of the AHSEC were awarded this merit scholarship today. In a ceremony organised by the District Administration of Cachar at the auditorium of Gurucharan College, scooters along with certificates were presented to the 1307 students. The Transport, Excise & Fisheries Minister of Assam, Parimal Suklabaidya was present as the Chief Guest of the program.
Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award scheme of the Assam Government, where the meritious students are presented with scooty after they pass the Higher Secondary examination was so far limited to female students. But now males have also been included in the scheme. In the case of female students, anyone who passes the AHSEC examination with First Division marks, but in the case of the males, only the ones who have more than 75 per cent marks in the higher secondary examination are awarded under this merit scheme.
Today in the ceremony organised by the district administration, Minister Parimal Suklabaidya presented this award to the students who passed this examination in 2022. A total of 1307 students were awarded scooty today in the presence of the minister and other dignitaries. Keys to their scooty along with the certificate of merit were presented to some selected students at the stage.
While addressing the crowd of students, Suklabaidya said, “Those who listened to the teachers, and parents and studied well have secured good marks and percentages. Those who did not will have more opportunities in the future. Those who did well got the award today and those who didn’t can also get many such benefits from the government if they are hardworking. If tomorrow out of 100 students, all of them secure good marks, the government will make sure that the shining red scooters wait for them after the results. Today 40 per cent of students got the merit award, we will fight to improve this number and make sure the number doubles next year. Life is full of struggle and we must not give up in this competition”. The minister also talked about the state government’s plans and program to improve the education infrastructure of the state in the coming days.
