Patient from Cachar tests Covid +ve; number swells to 26 in Assam
Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma confirms that a patient from Cachar district has tested positive.
At 11:15 PM, the health minister informed the same by posting on his twitter handle.
His post read, “Alert ~ one more #Covid_19 positive case from Cachar District has been confirmed, taking the total number in Assam to 26. This patient is also related to #NizamuddinMarkaz event in Delhi. Update at 11.15pm / April 4.”
As per available information, the patient’s name is Sajibur Rahman and is a resident of the Peladahar area located near Ranighat in Borkhola legislative assembly constituency. He had visited Nizamuddin Markaz to attend the meeting organised by Tablighi Jamaat. He is a retired official from the Border Security Force (BSF). His age, as per medical sources is 57 years.
Peladahar in Ranighat will now become a containment zone and the locality where Sajibur Rahman’s residence will be sealed. “We will follow the protocol in place and do whatever is necessary,” said the deputy commissioner of Cachar.
The 57-year-old had retired from BSF in 2007. Recently he attended the meeting organised by the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi and had returned to Cachar district from Delhi on March 19, 2020. He was admitted in Silchar Medical College and Hospital on April 2 and the reports of his medical test just reached authorities.
“His condition is stable,” informed MP Silchar, Rajdeep Roy.
