Patient from Silchar reaches Chennai after Air Ambulance got clearance to fly; "He is in critical care," family

Silchar resident Ashok Chandra Das, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on June 26, was supposed to be airlifted from the Silchar airport to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai yesterday. His family members wrote to the district administration on June 27, requesting a Green Corridor for the patient to smoothly travel to the airport.

But due to bad weather conditions, the flight couldn’t take off yesterday thereby delaying the process. Hence, Green Corridor was rearranged today morning and the patient Ashok Chandra Das was finally airlifted to Chennai for better treatment. The flight landed at noon today at the Chennai airport and after that, the patient was taken and admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai at around 1 pm.

Ashok Chandra Das, aged 62, tested RAT positive on June 26, following which he was immediately admitted to the Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Meherpur, Silchar. He is a known case of HTN (Hypertension) with post-renal transplant for CKD with disseminated tuberculosis on medication.

Anjan Kumar Paul, a relative of the patient, said, “The patient had a kidney transplant back in 1991, after which his health has been fragile always. Now the Covid-19 has even complicated that issue and it has become difficult to treat the patient. That’s why he was shifted here from the JJIMS in Silchar. He’s in critical care now and we are hoping that he’ll get better.”

Yesterday, the patient waited for more than 2 hours at the airport, but the aircraft didn’t get clearance for departure. Then the patient and his family had to return to the Hospital and the Cachar Police again facilitated a Green Corridor for them to return to the hospital smoothly. It is the first instance of a Green Corridor where the patient was successfully airlifted to the destination hospital in time.
