“Persecuted Refugees will get citizenship, infiltrators will be chased out,” Amit Shah in Silchar

“We are going to form government with an absolute majority,” Home Minister of India Amit Shah started his speech with a vote of confidence. He wished the present gathering a happy dol purnima and prosperous Bengali new year.

Without holding himself back, he launched an attack at Rahul Gandhi and Badaruddin Ajmal. “Rahul Baba had come to Assam on a holiday,” and the gathering broke into a huge laughter.

Shah was interactive all throughout his speech and connected with the mass gathering with yes or no questions. After a brief attack on Rahul Gandhi, he moved to Badaruddin Ajmal. “Is Badaruddin Ajmal the identity of Assam? Is Badaruddin Ajmal the identity of Silchar?” Shah threw these questions to the mass to get answers that would please the ear of Silchar candidate Dipayan Chakraborty.

Apart from the attacks on opposition especially the grand alliance, Shah also threw promises to the entire population of Barak Valley. Multi Modal Logistics Park, Installation of pipeline for gas, double the number of beds in Medical Colleges found place in his long list of promises. He also assured that the Silchar airport will be upgraded to an International Airport in the coming days.

He further touched upon the critical issue of citizenship but briefly. “We will provide citizenship to the persecuted immigrants and at the same time, chase away ghuspetiyas (infiltrators). Give us one more term,” he added. But he did not mention any modalities as to how he is going to do this. On the issue of infiltration, he said, “The infiltrators bring with them narcotics and get our kids addicted to abusive substances. Give us one more term and we will establish a cell of Narcotics Control Board in Silchar to curve the growth of substance abusive in this region.”

Reiterating what is mentioned in the manifesto, Shah said, “If elected, Assam Government will open employment opportunities for two lakh seekers in government sector and eight lakh in private sector.”

Shah concluded his speech by making a massive statement, “Elect Dipayan Chakraborty and he will serve you for the next 20 years. Mark my words, Dipayan Chakraborty will be a massive leader going forward.” And signed off after making a vote appeal.
