PFI cadres tear Bajrang Dal’s banner dedicated to martyrs; Police controls violence in Hailakandi
Cadres of a banned organisation – Popular Front of India (PFI) gathered in Hailakandi earlier today to celebrate its anniversary. As a part of the celebrations, the cadres started stapling the organisation’s flags in various parts of the district. When they reached Netaji Point in Hailakandi, they were stopped by locals for allegedly tearing Bajrang Dal’s banner dedicated to Pulwama Martyrs and replacing it with the controversial organisation’s flags.
This incident irked the locals and they started manhandling the PFI cadres. Hailakandi Sadar police station was informed about the outcry and the officials rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. A local resident says, “Thanks to the immediate action of the police officials or else this outcry was turning into a communal clash.”
Soon after the incidence people started posting about it on social media platforms. Some mentioned that the PFI cadres were carrying Pakistan’s national flag, the Hailakandi Sadar police station spokesperson denied any such incidence, ‘People are just spreading rumours. There were no Pakistani national flag nor were anyone shouting Pakistan Zindabaad, all these are lies that people are spreading on social media,” said the spokesperson.
He added, Hailakandi police is continuously monitoring the spot and there are units patrolling throughout the district, “Whatever happened there ended in a span of few minutes and everything is absolutely normal now,” said the police spokesperson.
The controversial Islamic organisation, PFI is banned by the administration for spreading communal hatred and disturbing peace. As per sources, the cadres rode on motorcycles from Badarpur to celebrate its foundation day in Hailakandi.
Sources suggest that the local Bajrang Dal members have lodged an FIR against district president of PFI, Masum Ahmed Laskar. As per latest reports, everything is normal in the entire district including Netaji Point where the incident took place.
