Police opens fire in Karimganj after culprit points gun; “It was controlled firing in self-defence,” SP

In a later night encounter in Karimganj District’s Patherkandi area, the Police opened fire at an arrested culprit. A man identified as Saiful Hussain was among the four arrested for opening fire at a resident.

Last Saturday, a youth incurred severe injury when he was shot by unidentified miscreants. The family members of the youth lodged an FIR and the Police started investigating the case.

“We cracked it in good time and identified four miscreants involved in the crime. All four were arrested,” informed Superintendent of Police Karimganj, Padmanabh Baruah.

However, the chain of affairs took a wrong turn when the Police went to Saiful Hussain’s home to collect the weapon with which he fired

“He guided the team of police officials to his home and recovered the weapon. But he soon took control of the weapon and pointed it towards one of our officials. To bring the situation under control our officers had to open fire. It was controlled firing in self defence,” SP Baruah added.

In the encounter Saiful Hussain incurred injury in his leg and is currently under treatment at Karimganj Civil Hospital. SP Baruah informed that no police officials suffered any sort of injuries
