Pre Diwali raid continues; more jhandi munda hubs removed in Silchar
Cachar Police sticks to its tough stance this Diwali. Every year along with the fireworks, people of Barak Valley dive into jhandi munda a local casino game. It looks like the “Kebol Jhandi” or “Kebol Munda” cheers won’t reach a high decibel as the police is in high alert mode. Gambling in Assam is illegal and Cachar Police conducted many raids in past few days to remove the Jhandi Munda hubs.
Yesterday, SI(p)Nilam Sanjib Nath and riding staff of Rangirkhari O.P raided Kathal Road area. The team managed to catch the group redhanded with their dices. Based on a secret tipoff, the Police raided near Maharshi Vidyamandir School and nabbed two individuals identified as Gulejur Ali Laskar and Ali Ahmed.
“A case has been registred at Silchar PS vide case no 3658/19,U/S 14 of AGBP act and forwarded the apprehended persons to hnble Silchar court,” informed Cachar Police.
This comes just a couple of nights after a Police attained double success within 12 hours. According to the received information, first raid was conducted in Bagha Bazar of Dholai constituency, where 650 plastic container with suspected heroin, 25 packets of empty plastic container and 2 plastic boxes of 38 grams each containing suspected heroin were recovered. The raid was conducted by Bhargab Borbora,OC Dholai PS along with his other staffs at the house of Sahabuddin Laskar. The owner of the house and other co accused fled on seeing the police party.
“In this connection a case has been registered vide Dholai P.S. C/ No- 250/2019, U/S- 21(b) NDPS act”, Cachar police said in a statement.
The second raid busted a gambling gang which was conducted at Neptune dhaba, Ramnagar under Tarapur OP. In this raid four persons were apprehended namely Taj Uddin Barbhuiya, Bidya Singha, Jomir Hussain and Nandu Singha and instrument of gambling were seized. Police has registered a case vide- SLC P.S.C/NO- 3641/2019 under sections – 14/15 of Assam Gambling and Batting Act 1970.
