Prison break in Cachar: Man accused of domestic violence commits suicide after escaping from custody

Jomir Uddin a resident of the Cachar district was arrested by Police. Uddin had allegedly attacked his wife with a dao a few days back. Since his wedding around eight months ago, he has had a troubled marriage. According to the neighbours, the couple engaged in frequent fights that forced the neighbours to intervene and broker peace.

After he attacked his wife with a dao, Jomir Uddin consumed poison and attempted to kill himself. While his intentions were to kill both himself and his wife, as it turned out, both of them landed to the ICU of Silchar Medical College and Hospital and survived.

Yesterday, Jomir Uddin was discharged from the hospital, his wife is still in the ICU. Officials from Bihara Police Outpost took Jomir Uddin’s custody and escorted him to the cell inside the outpost. Today, he was supposed to be produced before the judge at the Silchar Court.

According to Police sources, today morning Jomir Uddin said that he wants to take a dump and so, he wants to go and defecate at the nearby field. Surpisingly, the Police officials allowed to let him defecate in the open. He went to the pond and climbed up a nearby tree to eventually hang himself with his towel.

The locals saw the body hanging with the branch of the tree and immediately informed the Police officials about the same. The officials from the Outpost rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Police sources informed that the body has been sent for post mortem.
