Pritam Das, Abhishek Thakuri in Assam's team for Vijay Hazare Trophy; Rahul Singh misses out

The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that it will organise 50-over-ODI format Vijay Hazare Trophy as its next domestic tournament. Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament was the first cricketing event of the calendar year and the successful conclusion of the same has motivated the board to announce its second tournament.

Meanwhile, state teams have started announcing the squads. Assam Cricket Association has also announced the squad for the upcoming tournament. The state is in plate group along with Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim. The league phase of the tournament will run from February 20 till March 1.

After scoring back to back half-centuries in the Assam Premier Club Championship, left-handed wicket-keeper batsmen Abhishek Thakuri has managed to secure a berth in the team. Star bowler for Assam in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Pritam Das also made it to the team. Gokul Sharma will lead the team which has Pallav Kumar Das, Sarupam Purkayastha, Denish Das, Saahil Jain, Shiv Shankar Roy, Rajjakuddin Ahmed, Kunal Saikia, Abhishek Thakuri, Mukhtar Hussain, Pritam Das, Abu Nechim Ahmed, Sunil Lachit, Amlanjyoti Das, Abhilash Gogoi.

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, Rahul Singh from Silchar was also a part of the team. The left-arm slow bowler has been left out of the squad for the 50-over-format.

The BCCI has not specified the venues for the knockout matches, which will have one pre-quarterfinal on March 7, followed by the quarter-finals on March 8 and 9. Both semi-finals will take place on March 11, with the final on March 14.
