Priyanka Gandhi's roadshow evokes massive response in Silchar
All India Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi took part in a roadshow in Silchar on Sunday to campaign for Sushmita Dev, Congress candidate in Silchar.
The roadshow began around 12:55pm from Club Road here, passed through different localities including Central Road, Nazirpatty, Hospital Road and concluded at Rangirkhari around 2:45pm.
Congress leaders including All India Congress Committee general secretary Harish Rawat, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora and former parliamentarian Paban Singh Ghatowar were present during the roadshow, besides Congress workers from Barak Valley.
People in huge numbers, including from tea garden communities, participated in the roadshow. They raised slogans like “Chowkidar Chor Hain” and “Agla PM Kaisa Ho, Rahul Gandhi Jaisa Ho”. Congress workers in huge numbers were seen grooving while the roadshow crossed through different areas of the town.
Speaking on the occasion, Priyanka said she sees a reflection of her grandmother Indira Gandhi in Sushmita Dev. Sushmita has worked for the progress and development of the common people because of which the masses had voted for her and made her a leader, she said.
On the non-functional paper mills in Assam, Priyanka said the units ere profit-making industries when the Congress was in power. Correspondents of people have been suffering, but the BJP government did not do anything regarding the matter, she said.
Further, she urged the masses to go through the manifesto of both the political parties (Congress and BJP) before deciding whom to vote for in the upcoming elections. After the roadshow, Priyanka reached Silchar airport around 3:30pm and flew back to New Delhi.
