Professor of Women’s College, Dr. Jayati Chakraborty dies with Covid

48-year-old, Dr. Jayati Chakraborty, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, Women’s College is no more. She has breathed her last today at 6:15 pm. Her husband is also positive for Covid19 and is currently undergoing treatment. They have a young son at home.

Resident of Shillongpatty Silchar, Jayati Chakraborty was admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital on April 26.

In the official medical bulletin, it has been informed, “She is known diabetic for 10 yrs presented with shortness of breath and was admitted on 26/4/21 following RAT positivity done in civil hospital. She presented with SPO2 87% on Room air,” stated the Medical Bulletin.

“She was admitted in covid ICU and was diagnosed as Covid Pneumonia with DM (Diabetes mellitus is associated with increased mortality and severity of disease in COVID-19 pneumonia). She was initially put on NIV (Non-invasive ventilation is the use of breathing support administered through a face mask, nasal mask, or a helmet) for many days after which she was mechanically yesterday following detoriation of oxygen,” the medical bulletin adds.

The official record of SMCH states she expired today at 6.15 pm. Principal of Women’s College, Professor Manoj Paul said he is shocked to learn about the untimely demise of Dr. Jayati Chakraborty. “Just a few days back I donated blood. It is just unbelievable that she has left us so soon. I am shocked. May her husband who himself is suffering from COVID gets the strength to weather the storm.”

She was also active culturally used to participate in recitation and other cultural events.
