Professor on TDC Exam duty in Silchar tests positive for COVID19; "Didn't come in contact with students," she asserts

Sumita Ghosh Associate Professor and  Head, Department of Bengali, Cachar College has tested positive for COVID19. Currently, she is undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, professor Ghosh said she first noticed Covid symptoms on April 14 and immediately got herself tested for COVID19.

Ghosh was deployed on TDC exam duty as Assistant Officer-In-Charge. “Since I noticed symptoms only on April 14, I did not come in contact with any teacher or students after that as the last examination was on Monday (April 12),” asserted Professor Ghosh.

On April 14, she was under fever, had body ache, and other symptoms of COVID19. That is when she decided to get herself tested. “Though I could have stayed at home in isolation, I have decided to get myself admitted to the hospital as I have other complications,” informed Ghosh.

The Cachar College authority informed that premises will be sanitised and other protocols will be followed. A professor on condition of anonymity, explained the role of an AOC (Assistant Officer-In-Charge), “The Principals are Officer-In-Charge of examination centre and AOCs are deployed to assist them. The role of an AOC is to help in conducting the examination. It is not an invigilation duty, but if necessary, the AOCs do visit the examination hall.”

It is worth mentioning here that the Assam University Silchar is conducting offline examinations for odd-semester students of Colleges affiliated with the University. Professor Sumita Ghosh was on duty at one of the examination centres.
