Professor Subir Kar is no more

Noted scholar and former head of the department – Bengali at Assam University Silchar professor Subir Kar passed away at a local hospital at 10:15 pm on Wednesday. He was 78 and survived by his wife, Shukla Kar.

According to family sources, he was battling with cancer for a long time and was admitted to the hospital a few days back.

Known for having clinical know-how on language, Prof Kar was richly admired among the intellectual and academic circles of the region. He has authored many books during his career as an educationist. He worked in Karimganj college before joining Assam University.
