Protest against NC College's decision to conduct recruitment examination; Principal says dates cannot be changed

Nabinchandra College, Badarpur is conducting a recruitment drive for Grade III and Grade IV posts of the college on August 21, Sunday. The applicants have submitted a memorandum to the Principal of the college and the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj, to postpone the said recruitment examinations. This demand comes at a time when the Assam Government is conducting a direct recruitment drive to hire over twenty-five thousand employees on the same date. The Principal and the hiring committee of the college are adamant about not changing the date.

The applicants are of the opinion that many aspirants have applied for both examinations, and the clash between the two exams puts them in a dilemma about which exam to attend. The college administration is out of options but has to conduct the examination on August 21. The applicants have also alleged that everyone knows the dates of the examination being conducted by the Assam Government, but the college administration is ignorant.

Barak Bulletin reached out to Dr Mortuja Hussain, the Principal of NC College, who has confirmed that the dates can’t be changed. He rather said, “We are aware of the examination being conducted by our state government, but when we decided the date, the state government didn’t release the notification about conducting examinations on August 21. Earlier when we wanted to conduct the examination on July 31, we had to postpone it due to technical issues. We can’t afford any further delay”. The reason why the exams can’t be delayed, Dr Hussain said, “We have to conduct the examinations on Sundays only. The state-level recruitment examination is on August 21 and 28 as well. So we can’t conduct it next Sunday either. When we proposed to hold the examination today, many objected because it’s a religious holiday and might harm the people’s sentiment. But we have to finish the recruitment process within this month and that’s why we have no option.”

When asked about an alternative, the Principal said, “Even though there are no options, the Grade-III applicants can sit for the examination on the 21st, as they don’t have any exam on that day”. The state government has constituted a commission called Assam Direct Recruitment Commission to carry out the recruitment process of Group C and Group D posts in various departments. This commission has been formed to fulfil the guarantee of 1 lakh jobs provided by the current Chief Minister of Assam. On the following two Sundays, direct recruitment examinations for Grade-III and Grade-IV posts will be held for a total number of 27,422 posts. Out of this, 13,141 posts are in the Grade III category and the rest 14,281 are in the Grade-IV category.
