Radhamadhab College employee's Rs 2 lakh snatched after he withdrew from SBI New Silchar

In a shocking case of daylight robbery, a Radhamadhab College employee fell prey to a few snatchers who got away with valuable cash belonging to the College. The incident happened at the Rangirkhari area when the employee of the college was returning from the State Bank of India (SBI), New Silchar branch after depositing a cheque there. The employee was carefully carrying the cash worth 2 lakh rupees in a bag hung around his shoulder while riding on his bicycle. Suddenly, two unidentified assailants came and attacked him which made him fall off his bicycle. While he tried resisting, the assailants got away with the cash while the victim was rendered defenceless there.

An FIR has been filed at the Rangirkhari Police station on behalf of the college authorities, but the assailants haven’t been identified or tracked yet. The principal of the college, Debashish Roy, said that the employee named Hariprasad Kurmi often performed these kinds of duties of the college responsibly. On Friday, for some work purpose, he was asked by the college authority to take a cheque of one lakh rupees and withdraw the money from the bank. Another teacher handed him a similar cheque of one lakh rupees to withdraw. After depositing both the cheques and withdrawing money from the bank, he was returning to the college on his bicycle in the usual way, when the miscreants attacked him.

Debashish Roy said, “Hariprasad Kurmi is a very old and veteran staff and a loyal employee of the college. When he came back after the attack on Friday, he was covered in mud all over and was slightly injured as well. There were two of them and they managed to escape with the bag of money after a lot of tussles. There were very few people nearby at that time but nobody came forward to help.”

“We are stunned and a little bit terrified as well by such an instance of daylight robbery. As per the norms, we immediately went to the police station and filed an FIR and appealed to the police to catch the miscreants. We don’t want any of our staff or any person whatsoever to get hurt in the future by such miscreants. The police officials assured that they would investigate the case and take necessary action.”

Newly appointed DSP of the Cachar district Kalyan Kumar Das said, “We have received information about the incident and a case has also been filed by the college authority. Rangirkhari police officials, including our riding team, have already started the investigation. We are trying to check the footage of all the CCTV cameras in the area. Besides, the bank authority has been contacted in this regard. We will try to find the culprits by reviewing all the aspects. ”

It is to be noted that during the period between the end of last year and the first few months of this year, there have been frequent cases of robbery all over the city. In the end, the police were able to catch a vicious circle, who came from a different state and rented a house here in Silchar for their activities. Although they were not able to catch every single one of them, some of them were arrested and the snatching or robbery cases stopped for a while. These issues took a backseat with the subsequent election and the second wave of the coronavirus.

However, the type of incident that took place on Friday is exactly the same as the previous incidents. The miscreants are getting information as soon as someone withdraws a large amount of money from the bank. They ride black Pulsar bikes with clothes masking their faces and jump on the man who comes out with the money. Despite arresting the perpetrators in the past, the police could not find out whether there was any other person behind such robberies as well. People have been asking questions as to when someone withdraws money from a bank, how do the miscreants get the complete information of that person? It’s quite mysterious. Maybe there is someone inside the bank who is handing over all the information to the miscreants. Otherwise, miscreants can’t know from the outside regarding who is going to withdraw what amount of money.
