Rahul Gandhi to visit Panchgram on April 9
We are in the slog overs of the election campaigning match and each party is fielding their power hitters to score as high as possible. The Congress president Rahul Gandhi who recently shocked the political fraternity by submitting a nomination from Wayanad in Kerala is set to visit Barak Valley on April 9, 2019.
As per available information, he will address a massive gathering somewhere in Panchgram area. The location is considered as a strategic masterstroke by the political analysts as Hindustan Paper Mill which is also located in the same vicinity is an election issue this time. The defunct paper mill was a major employer in this region and employees are deprived of their monthly wages for the last 24 months. It may be mentioned here that employees of HPC workers have already decided to boycott the election. It is to be seen whether Rahul Gandhi’s rally can make any difference to their decision.
Rahul Gandhi has already announced that if Congress is voted to the Lok Sabha, his party would revive the Mill and clear all pending dues. It is certain that the Congress president would target BJP over the Mill and try to woo the voters with poll promises. Another issue that people will keep an eye is the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016. Voters of Barak Valley are in support of the Bill and would like to see it getting passed as soon as possible. However, Rahul Gandhi already announced that his party will do everything possible to block any passage of such Bill which according to him is unconstitutional. Recently BJP candidate contesting from Silchar, Rajdeep Roy asked Sushmita Roy to clarify her stand on the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.
Gandhi was earlier supposed to visit on April 3, 2019, but, Congress later announced that his visit has been postponed.
