Rahul Singh's 10 wicket in a match, Aman Singh's half-century in each innings; Silchar in Semis of Nuruddin Trophy
Silchar qualifies for the semis after displaying brilliant cricket in Nuruddin Trophy Senior Inter-district cricket tournament. Silchar defeated Tinsukia by four wickets on Tuesday; the match was played in Amingaon Guwahati. Silchar’s fate was going to be determined in this match with Tinsukia, as they drew their first match against Nagaon. The challenge was hard for Silchar on the third day on the spinning track of Amingaon. At the end of the second day, Silchar’s score was 38 for two wickets, and they were chasing 164 runs. Subham Mandal and Samik Das were sent to the pavilion by Amit Sinha. Silchar was ahead in the contest but Tinsukia had a formidable spin attack.
In a low-scoring match, like this, chasing 150 runs in the last innings is always tough. At a certain point, Silchar had lost 6 wickets with 106 runs on board, but Pritam and Jaydip held the steering from that stage. There’s a saying, that extraordinary moments require extraordinary acts, Silchar’s Ranji Player Pritam Das has played a brilliant knock-in-the-run chase; they didn’t opt for the big shots. Instead, they kept on rotating the strikes. Silchar chased the target easily based on the partnership of Pritam and Jaydip. Pritam and Jaydip scored 27 and 30, respectively.
Aman Singh has played a significant knock in both innings; he scored 51 in the first and 53 in the second innings. The pitch in Amingaon was difficult for the batters, particularly against the spin attack of Tinsukia. But nothing could restrict Aman. He is generally known for his power hitting, but against Tinsukia, he batted against his character and played a responsible, mature knock. Abhishek Thakuri, another state player, scored 14 runs for Silchar. Silchar was in trouble for a few moments when Aman got out, but Jaydip and Pritam has done the rest. Tinsukia Leg Spinner picked four wickets in the second inning.
Tinsukia scored 149 in their first inning, for Silchar Sanjib had picked fifer. Left-arm spinner Rahul Singh had four wickets. In response, Silchar scored 163 in their first innings and took e lead of 14 runs. Silchar was batting on 144 for eight at a stage, their Amit Jadav took Silchar to a leading position. Amit Jadav Scored a 30, not out. Tinsukia made 177 in their second innings where Rahul Singh picked six wickets for 41 runs. Rahul has got 10 wickets in the match.
Now Silchar will face Tezpur in the semi, the match will be played in Barsapara stadium on May, 26. Tezpur qualified for semis before Guwahati. Heavyweight NF Railway is out of the tournament. Bishwanath Chariali and Dibrugarh have also qualified for the semifinal.
Silchar coach Rajib Das is happy with the performance of his team. “We were able to play as a team, and this has brought the victory,” said the coach of Silchar. He also said, many players have contributed to the match, but he mentioned that the partnership between Pritam and Jaydip was most crucial. “Aman Singh has utilized the situation; he played brilliantly in both innings, and Amit Jadav played a good knock at the end of the first innings,” the coach said. Coach also mentions the performance of left-arm spinner Rahul Singh.
The coach believes that there are scopes for improvement in the semifinal match. “Our spin attack is not much consistent, which is necessary. I believe Tinsukia had an upper hand in the spin attack; we have to improve our spin attack before semi,” the coach added.
