In a good turn of affairs, the Railway board has approved the conversion of 20 passenger trains from the Northeast Frontier Railway region to express train, two of which are Silchar-Guwahati passenger and Silchar-Agartala passenger.
“Vide letters under reference… zonal Railways had furnished proposal/recommendation to Railway Board for the conversion of passenger trains into mail/express trains. Board approves the conversion of the following passenger trains into mail/express trains,” a railway’s internal communication mentioned.
Accordingly, the following train have been approved for conversion into Express train-
55615/6 Silchar-Guwahati Passenger,
55663/4 Silchar-Agartala Passenger,
55811/2 Kamakhya-Dhubri Pass,
55753/4 Guwahati-Alipurduar Pass,
55901/2 Lumding-Tinsukia Pass among others.
The railways is likely to either speed up or curtail some stoppages of these trains to make it express. According to an earlier notification, it’s likely to remove Arunachal, Salchapra, Panchgram, and Katakhal stations from the stoppage list of the Silchar-Guwahati passenger train and the same stations along with some other stations from Tripura state (except Katakhal st.) from the Silchar-Agartala passenger trains.
However, all these changes will be materialized only after the trains roll back in rail as they are currently not in operation, following lockdown.
