Rain Forest Institute and Cachar Forest division jointly organise awareness programme on "Bamboo and Agarwood Cultivation"
The Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat and Cachar Forest Division have jointly organised an awareness programme today on “Bamboo and Agarwood Cultivation” at Cachar College, Silchar. The awareness programme was organised for the forest staff, farmers and entrepreneurs. In the presence of various scientists and environment conservationists, the programme was held.
Scientist Satyam Bordoloi has elaborated on the cultivation techniques of bamboo. He has spoken about the actions required for a bamboo-based economy. Dr Rajib Kumar Borah, a Scientist, along with Dr R S C Jayaraj, the Director of the Rain Forest Research Institute, has spoken on agarwood cultivation, artificial induction, trade and policy issues related to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
In the awareness symposium, the need for registration of plantations and licensing of Industries was emphasized. The Chief Conservator of Forest Silchar, Sivakumar along with the Director of RFRI has discussed in brief the Agarwood Policy of Assam. Along with that, the rules and regulations related to felling, transport and export were also expounded by the experts.
