"Rajdeep Roy has insulted Barak's Youth by asserting they lack talent", says Sushmita Dev
At a recent press conference, MP Rajdeep Roy and BJP’s Cachar district in-charge Biswarup Bhattacharjee said politicians in the previous government had a direct role in the destruction of paper mill. With their help, the paper mill has been gradually destroyed and the politicians have taken a lot of profit from it. Since there was a Congress ruled government in the state and at the center at that time, it’s no hard guess that the Congress leaders are at the center of this allegation. With elections nearing the corner, the political tug of war has become more prominent than ever.
In this context, Sushmita Dev has directly challenged the BJP leadership to arrest the ones responsible for paper mill’s dismantled condition with evidence if they can. She also said that MP Rajdeep Roy has insulted the educated youth of Barak Valley by saying that they don’t have the talent to get government jobs and he should apologise for that.
Sushmita Dev and other Congress leaders held a press conference at the District Congress office on Tuesday afternoon to highlight the party’s various programs. They said the party’s manifesto for this year’s assembly elections would be based on public opinion. Just as the BJP is campaigning based on Gujarat model which is their unbreached fortress, the Chhattisgarh model will be the Congress’ counter tool in Assam. Even the draft of the Party’s manifesto will be sent to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel. He will judge the extent to which the promises can be fulfilled.
Sushmita said, “We do not want to make promises that cannot be kept. The BJP repeatedly fails to keep its promises because their aim is to fool the people. We have repeatedly exposed the lies of BJP. Our manifesto is based on the Chhattisgarh model. Of course it will be in the interest of the common people and I hope the public will understand and support us.”
The Congress party is organising ‘Jonohunkar Rally’ in Dholai on February 4. The failed promises and anti people policies of the BJP led state government in the last five years will be highlighted in the Congress meeting. Speaking of the rally Sushmita said, “Elections will be held in a few months from now on and the BJP will make new commitments to the public. The election is very important to us because people will determine their future for the next five years. The BJP will try to fool the people again and as an opposition party, we have a responsibility to make people aware of this. A ‘Jonohunkar Rally’ is being organised for this purpose. Since the only ministerial assembly in Barak Valley is Dholai, the first event is being held there.”
In case of government jobs, the youth of Barak Valley have had a very few opportunities and in some cases no opportunities at all to showcase their talent. Referring to this, Sushmita said, “Recently, 78 posts in the DRDA department were filled in, out of which 45 posts were in various offices in Barak Valley. Not a single youth in the Valley has got a job in it. There are many such instances where the educated youth of Barak Valley were deprived of their opportunities. I heard Rajdeep Roy said that the youth of Barak didn’t have the talent or capability to get those jobs. The BJP previously mocked Tarun Gogoi when he made a remark regarding Barak’s soil pattern, did Rajdeep Roy do the same by humiliating the intelligence possessed by the youth of this Valley in a condescending tone? He insulted the students of this Valley with his offensive remark and I think he should apologise to the educated young men and women of Barak Valley.”
Former minister Ajit Singh, Party District President Pradeep Dey and other members of the District and State Committees were present at the press conference.
Ajit Singh said, “Whenever the price of potato or petrol went up in the past, BJP leaders protested against it by hanging a garland of potatoes and onions around their necks. Among them were local leaders from Silchar including MLA Dilip Kumar Paul. But now prices are going up almost daily and have tripled but they don’t even dare to protest from the party. They are doing injustice to the people by flattering the party leadership and will get a befitting reply soon.”
