Ramanuj Gupta Trust's Intra-institution sports meet an attempt to break "monotony" in students' lifestyle, says Rudra Narayan Gupta

Ramanuj Vidyamandir, Ramanuj Gupta Junior College and Ramanuj Gupta Degree College occupy a special place not only in the valley but in the education system of the entire state as well. But this time Ramanuj Gupta Trust has undertaken a special plan to contribute not only in the field of education but also in the field of sports. Ramanuj Gupta Trust was formed by Dr. Rahul Gupta in memory of his late son. As a part of celebrating 25 years i.e. silver jubilee of the college, a sports meet has been organised by the trust with the three educational institutions. The festival of sports commenced on Wednesday with Indoor Games.

In post-Covid era, students seem unable to overcome boredom. Students have become addicted to mobile phones due to lockdowns. As a result not many can be seen playing in the playground. Today, the entire system is trapped by online and offline. Thinking something out of the box is the last resort to get out of this intoxicating atmosphere of boredom. Ramanuj Vidyamandir, Ramanuj Gupta Junior College, Ramanuj Gupta Degree College – all together also called Ramanuj Gupta Trust are walking on that out of the box path now.

Ramanuj Gupta Junior College started its year-long 25-year celebration on November 14. It will continue till November 14, 2023. The three-day sports meet started on Wednesday as the second phase of the Silver Jubilee celebrations.

Students of schools and colleges will compete to be in top in a total of 10 indoor-outdoor events. Chess, Carrom and Table Tennis events will be held on December 28-30 in the college premises. Badminton competition will be held at Silchar District Sports Association’s Indoor stadium. On the other hand, the Truck and Field event is being held at Silchar Town Club ground. Cricket and football matches will be played at Silchar Sporting. All competitors participating in these events will be honored with a certificate. And the winners will be awarded with certificates as well as trophies. Teams playing in the cricket and football finals will be given jerseys bearing the Trust’s name. Although there’s no bar in case of other college students to participate, only the students of Class IX and X of Ramanuj Vidyamandir can participate in this sports event in case of school. Around 350 competitors are participating in this sports meet.

Dr. Rahul Gupta’s son and the president of Ramanuj Gupta Memorial Trust, Rudra Narayan Gupta, on behalf of the trust said on Wednesday, “Corona period has damaged the education system. Students are confused by the puzzle of online and offline classes. Something ‘out of the box’ was necessary. So we came up with the idea of sports meet. I hope that through this sports meet students will be able to get out of their monotonous lifestyle.” The college or Ramanuj Trust school authorities have also got their eyes on extra-curricular activities of the students. Gupta said that some projects have also been undertaken regarding this.

He also said that they have a plan to build a mini sports complex in Meherpur Beltola which would include a turf, mini indoor and gym. Apart from sports, Ramanuj students can also perform physical education, that is the aim. In this age of career obsession, everything has become mechanical. We have to take an active role so that these children of ours can come out of their monotonous life. The journey has begun, let’s see if we can reach the destination. Alongwith others, Dr. Dipankar Kar, Sharadindu Dhar, Purnadeep Chanda, Diptaman Biswas were present in the press conference.
