Rename Civil Hospital as Fasai Mia Civil Hospital or Silchar Civil Hospital: Aminul Haque Laskar
Bombay became Mumbai, Madras is now Chennai, Allahabad is back to being Prayagraj- though the queen still stands tall at Victoria Terminus, the iconic railway station in Mumbai is now named Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Shakespeare once wrote ‘What’s in a name?’ but Indian politicians certainly don’t read the British writer. Today, in Assembly, member of the legislative assembly from Sonai constituency, Aminul Haque Laskar requested to change the name of Satindra Mohan Dev Civil Hospital.
He said the land on which the Civil hospital is built in Hospital Road was donated by Fasai Mia out of goodwill. “In Silchar, there is a Civil Hospital, and land for it was donated by Fasai Mia but there was a leader from Silchar, who became MP/Minister from Tripura and changed the name of the hospital to his father’s name, Satindra Mohan Civil Hospital.” He demanded that on behalf of the people of Barak Valley that the name of the hospital should be Silchar Civil Hospital or Fasai Mia Civil Hospital.
He even questioned the nomenclature of district sports association’s stadium. The DSA ground is called Satindra Mohan Dev memorial stadium and he expressed his objection on the same. However, the speaker interrupted Aminul Haque Laskar and asked him to write a letter to the state government.
It remains to be seen whether the SM Dev Civil hospital becomes Fasai Mia Civil Hospital or Silchar Civil Hospital. However, it is certain to attract a lot of opinions from people in the state.
