Replica of Delhi's Akshardham, London bridge, live birds and wildlife; Udharbond set for Durga Puja 2019

The biggest festival for Bengalis living all around the world- Durga Puja is here. The air is filled with the Puja perfume and the committees all around the world are now counting days. This is the time of the year when the members of the respective Puja committees announce their plans. One of the biggest crowd-pullers in the entire Northeastern region, Udharbond Kalibari Durga Puja Committee too has announced its plans for 2019.

This year, the Puja committee has commissioned artisans to make a giant replica of Delhi’s Akshardham Temple. The pandal higher and wider than previous years will be made of jute. Visitors will need to walk a bridge to enter the pandal. That 110 feet high bridge will be replicate of the towering London bridge over the Thames river. Inside the pandal, the biggest attraction is going to be the idols of the goddesses, each one will be made of different kinds of foodgrain. Apart from the idols, inside the pandal live birds and greenery are the other arrangements that the committee members believe will mesmerise visitors.

Last year, the Kalibari Puja committee had commissioned a Titanic which attracted lakhs of visitors. This huge footfall had landed the committee into trouble as many visitors had to return back despite coming from far and wide. This year, the members said that they have stretched the pandal in width so that it can accommodate more visitors at one go.

Like last year, in 2019 also there will be free, Rs 50 and Rs 100 gate passes available for the visitors. The committee announced that the proceeds will be used in developing a resthouse for the orphans, something that they have started with the money collected last year.

Pradeep Bhuiyan, Chandan Majhi and Pradipta Rajbangshi from Kolkata have been appointed to execute the project and along with them close to 50 workers are devoting their full day to finish the mammoth task in time.
