Residents pay homage to martyrs on Shahid Diwas

“Ae mere watan ke logon, zara aankh mein bharlo pani, jo shahid huye hai unki, zara yaad karo kurbaani….” This Lata Mangeshkar crooned song still gives us goosebumps.

Remembering the brave soldiers, who lost their lives in battlefield, Silchar residents got together to pay their homage on Shahid Diwas. The day saw people of all ages flocking the Silchar shamshan ghat, offering flowers and prayers to the lost lives.

As readers would know 11 soldiers lost their lives in 1961. While one more died in 1972, three lives were again lost between 1985 and 1986.
