Retired Railway Employee Speaks Out: Allegations of Corruption Against Senior Officials

Sandhya Rani Kar, a retired central government employee from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway), has raised serious allegations of corruption against high-ranking officials within the NF Railway. A retired employee of the Engineering Works Division, she claimed departmental politics had stopped her from seeking promotion during her tenure. Now, the same is being repeated for her son, who also works in the railways.

In a press statement, Kar mentioned, that she served with dedication for 17 years before opting for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) in 2009. She has described a series of grievances and corruption-related issues she faced during her tenure. Kar claims that after the death of her husband, her designated job was deceitfully given to another individual. After a long battle for what is rightfully her, she could secure a job at the department. Despite her efforts to rectify the situation, she alleges that corruption and malpractice continued to hinder her career.

Kar also highlights a major incident involving a promotion exam where she suffered a severe accident leading to significant eye damage. According to Kar, this incident was covered up by senior officials and various organizations, resulting in her complete failure in the exam and a dismissal of her grievances by the railway authorities.

In a disturbing revelation, Kar states that her legal case was withdrawn from the Labour Court without her consent, and her repeated applications to the Rail Board in Delhi were ignored for over a decade. Justice was eventually served in 2009 when her son, Tarak Nath Kar, was appointed to a position within the railway. However, Kar alleges that a rival individual’s son was appointed to the same position in the same year, putting her son at a disadvantage.

The allegations include claims that a subsequent promotion exam, held in 2022, was marred by deceitful practices. Kar asserts that despite her son passing the exam in February 2023, he, along with three other candidates, was unfairly declared unsuccessful. This incident reportedly resulted in the cancellation of their postings and has led to a lack of response to their numerous applications for redressal.

In the press conference, she said, “I have gone to the vigilance officer who held the exam and he mentioned that everyone who sat for the promotional exam passed. Then why was my son denied promotion? I have struggled hard for this job and some people with power and connections secure the job so easily and even get promotions while we hardworking people of the department are denied what is ours. This is injustice”.

She demands this matter to be investigated by the CM Vigilance Team of Assam and if required she is ready to reach up to the Union Ministry of Railways.
