Rs 20 Cr Drugs Seized in Cachar, Supplier Arrested
Police in Cachar have seized a large quantity of drugs in a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and the police. The operation led to the recovery of 60,000 yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin. One supplier has been arrested.
The STF and police conducted the operation based on a tip-off in the Silcoorie area of Cachar. The team, led by STF IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta and police superintendent Numal Mahatta, intercepted a motorcycle and seized the drugs. The arrested person has been identified as Sahil Hussain, a young supplier from Kabuganj in Cachar.
The police reported that Sahil Hussain was transporting the drugs on a bike bearing the registration number AS 11AA 9625. He was caught while attempting to supply the contraband.
“The seized drugs have a market value of ₹20 crore,” said IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta.
He added, “The drugs were brought from a neighbouring state and were meant to be transported to other states of India.”
The war against drugs by Assam Police and Cachar Police continues, with consistent efforts to crack down on drug trafficking in the region. IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta termed this operation a significant success for Cachar’s Anti-Drug Mission. The case remains under investigation.
