Ruckus in Silchar Church: “All six detained are juvenile,” Cachar SP; “They don’t hold any responsibilities at Bajrang Dal,” Mithun Nath

One after another, as a part of the CrPC 107 proceedings, Cachar Police has detained six individuals who were involved in the incident at the Presbyterian Church in Silchar.

Cachar Police interrogated all six of them. “As we are aware, some Hindus entered the Church and created a ruckus inside the Oriental School campus. We have detained six of them and they confessed their mistakes,” said Cachar SP, Ramandeep Kaur while briefing the press about the investigation.

The SP added, “They confessed that they went to the Church and asked the Hindus to leave. According to them, the Hindus must celebrate Tulsi Dibas instead of dressing up and visiting the Church.”

On December 25, these individuals gave statements to the press after locking the gate to the Church. One of them said, he is “Saha Sangjojok of Bajrang Dal’s Rangirkhari unit.” Others too introduced themselves as members of the Bajrang Dal. When asked about their association with Bajrang Dal, Cachar SP said, “During our investigation, we did not find any direct connection between them and any organisation. We consulted the matter with the local Bajrang Dal units and even they maintained the same.”

Mithun Nath, General Secretary of Cachar district unit of Bajrang Dal said that Bajrang Dal is not involved in the activities of these boys. “They don’t hold any official positions at Bajrang Dal’s Cachar District unit. To hold an official responsibility, the member must be at least 18-year-old. Yes, I heard that they have introduced themselves as members of Bajrang Dal but I think they have done it out of immaturity. They just wanted to become famous and I feel, that is why they have done this,” asserted Nath.

Astonishingly, the Church authorities did not lodge any formal complaint. The Police is yet to receive a complaint and so, no case has been registered. “We have warned them officially if similar incidents are repeated, they will have to face consequences. Meanwhile, if we receive any complaints, we will lodge the case,” concluded Cachar SP, Ramandeep Kaur.
