Samik Das signs for Town Club; 4-day transfer for upcoming cricket season begun today in Silchar DSA

Assam State Cricketer Samik Das steals the show on day one of the transfers for the upcoming cricket season that kickstarted today in the Silchar District Sports Association’s office. This year the clearance or transfer process will continue for four days instead of two as the association is conducting it after following the COVID protocols.

A total of 190 players had changed club last year in the pre-season clearance and on the first day, the number was 102. This year, 94 players signed for different clubs on the first day itself. All-rounder Samik Das has decided to move on from India Club to Town Club. India Club was the runner up in the Super Division last year.

“Town Club has been asking me to join them for quite some time now and that is why, this year, I have decided to make a move,” said Samik Das. He added, “I am eagerly waiting for the session to begin. It has been almost a year we have not practiced or played professionally because of the Coronavirus-induced lockdowns. I will give my best and I hope Town Club can clinch the title this year.”

Apart from Samik Das, experienced cricketer Mosarob Hussain Laskar, Anubhab Das, and Prosenjit Sarkar also moved on from India Club to join defending champion United. The champions have signed a total of five players on day one to strengthen their team. According to sources in the club, United will also attempt to sign players from other districts.

Town Club, on the other hand, has roped in Itkhola AC’s Krishanu Dutta and Dibakar Johri to join Samik Das. Town Club has also signed emerging cricketer Abhishek Deb from Spirit Union. With these new signings, Town Club has almost set its team for the upcoming edition.

Meanwhile, the Green Hornet club has signed 11 players on day one. Day two of the Clearance will begin tomorrow.
