Santosh Mohan Dev is responsible for the Paper Mill downfall: BJP's Kaushik Rai

BJP Cachar district president Kaushik Rai has slammed the Congress party for raising questions on BJP’s intent to re-open the defunct Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mills.

Addressing media persons here at the district office in Silchar on Saturday,  the BJP president said “Former union minister of heavy industries and Congress bigwig late Santosh Mohan Dev was one of the main agents responsible for the downfall of the Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram and those who are raising voices now are actually playing into the hands of the Congress Party.”

Making it clear that the Central and State Government is absolutely aware of the situation and pitching their best efforts to revive the Mills, Rai said that the Paper Mill was bugged by corruption and malpractices during the Congress regime. “It is unfortunate that Mill was defunct during NDA. But we must not forget what led to the closure. The BJP had been raising concerns on the declining status of the Mill and had warned the former Government of the eventualities beforehand.  He also mentioned that the BJP stood behind those who are facing difficulties due to the closure. But a section of doctored cadres who had been involved in misusing the Government property have no right to point fingers now,” Rai added.

Meanwhile, Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya infomed that even though it is taking time to go through certain process, there is every possibility that the Mill will reopen and the Government is committed towards meeting the revival necessities.
