Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates India's tallest flag in Guwahati, dedicates it to people of Assam
All roads led to Gandhi Mandap, Guwahati where chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal innaugurated India’s tallest National Flag (avg city elevation). At 319.5 ft, it is India’s 3rd tallest flagmast, the flag measures 120×80 ft.
The occasion marked the commencement of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations in the state. The CMO Assam official page terms the commencement as a “befitting” tribute to the man, “whose ideals of peace and non-violence will be relevant forever,” reads the post.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said, “I am feeling invigorated standing beneath India’s tallest National Flag (from average city elevation). This structure has enhanced the beauty of this area. I urge district administration to plan an unique identity for all the hills around Guwahati.”
Sonowal also took the moment to endorse Prime Minister’s cleanliness drive by promoting #SwachhataHiSeva. “I call upon all to work towards building a clean and green India,” the chief minister added.
The flag is located in the Gandhi Mandap on top of Sarania hills in Guwahati. Will this flag make the hill a vintage point and attract tourists, it remains to be seen.
