School in Cachar under drain water; Guardians seek intervention of CM, Education Minister
In an alarming situation that has gripped the Hazi Khudeja Choudhury ME School in Bhakatpur, Kathal Road, over 500 students have been deprived of education for more than 20 days due to a drainage crisis. The classrooms, funded by taxpayers’ money, are submerged in stagnant drain water, rendering them unfit for academic activities.
Local guardians, distressed by the prolonged closure, have expressed their concerns while speaking with Barak Bulletin. They revealed that the headteacher had reached out to the deputy commissioner of Cachar, prompting a visit from district administration representatives. Unfortunately, the visit failed to bring any relief, leaving the fate of the school in limbo.
Desperation has led the guardians to make a fervent appeal for the intervention of Assam’s Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the Education Minister of the state, Ranoj Pegu. The community fears that without swift action, the educational future of the students remains uncertain.
The drainage issue is attributed to the absence of a designated passage for drain water, exacerbated by the failure of locals to reach a consensus on constructing drains. Until last year, drain water used to flow through private property, but recent earth-filling activities on the land have disrupted the natural flow, inundating the ME School.
The dire situation extends beyond the school premises, as residents fear the impending monsoon season will submerge numerous homes in the area. The school stands at the convergence of Ambcapur Part 10 GP and Ward No. 17 of the Silchar Municipal Board, demanding immediate attention from the administration to address the broader drainage problem.

The resolution of this crisis now hinges on the actions of Cachar District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha and Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty. The community is anxiously awaiting their response, but for now, the primary concern of the guardians is the urgent intervention of the Chief Minister and the Education Minister to facilitate the resumption of classes in the beleaguered school.
As the plight of Hazi Khudeja Choudhury ME School persists, the community remains united in their plea for a swift and effective resolution to prevent further disruption to the education of the affected students and avert potential disasters in the upcoming monsoon season.
