School van with 14 students meets with an accident in Cachar; 6 children and driver referred to SMCH for critical care
Horrible news coming in from Cachar district’s Udharbond area. A school van with 14 students on board lost control and rolled off-road. The accident happened today morning in Udharbond Choiltakandi area.
As per available information, the Red Rose Academy’s School Van was headed towards the school premises in Rongpur with the students when the accident occurred. The students boarded the bus from the Dudhpatil Durga Bari area.
All 14 students and the driver driving the van suffered injuries. Locals in the area rescued them from the van and all of them were rushed to the Udharbond Primary Health Centre. After the preliminary check-up, the doctors of the PHC deemed six students and the driver to be in serious medical condition and they have been referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
58-year-old, Shekar Das was driving MN 04 D 6849 School Van. According to the eyewitnesses, the school van had a steering failure and so, when the driver wanted to turn and keep the vehicle on road, he could not.
It has been informed by the local authorities that eight students have been discharged from the PHC after primary fast aid. The locals have posed a question if the vehicle had the necessary permissions to drive with 14 children and if not, why did the school authority put so many lives in danger.
