
Schools Closed and Timings Revised in Sribhumi, Cachar and Hailakandi Due to Cold Wave
Following Sribhumi, both Cachar and Hailakandi districts have issued official orders revising school timings and suspending classes in view of the prevailing cold weather conditions. All three orders aim to protect students from extreme cold during early morning hours.
In Cachar district, the administration has revised school timings for all categories of schools. As per the order, new timings will come into effect from January 1, 2026. Lower Primary schools will function from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Upper Primary schools from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, and High, Higher Secondary and Senior Secondary schools from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The order does not specifically mention a full closure for primary classes, but focuses on rescheduling school hours.
Hailakandi district has announced the closure of classes up to Class VIII for two days on January 1 and January 2, 2026. Classes for Class IX to XII will continue from January 1 with revised timings. According to the order, Lower Primary schools will operate from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and Upper Primary schools from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm starting January 3. High and Higher Secondary schools will function from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm from January 1. The order also states that teachers of composite schools must remain present until 3:00 pm.
All three district administrations have clearly stated that ongoing examinations conducted by Boards, Councils or at the district level for Classes IX, X, XI and XII will not be affected and will continue as per the existing schedule.
Earlier, Sribhumi district had issued a similar order. In Sribhumi, classes from Lower Primary to Class VIII were suspended for two days on December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026. These classes will resume on January 2 with revised timings. Lower Primary schools will function from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and Upper Primary schools from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. Secondary and Higher Secondary classes will continue without closure but with revised timings of 10:00 am to 3:00 pm starting December 31.
