Security beefed up in Aizawl; Ministers of two states to meet for the first time since armed onslaught in border

A historic meeting is about to kickstart in Aizawl, Mizoram. For the first time since the Mizo onslaught within the territory of Assam on July 26 that claimed lives of six Assam Police personnel and injured more than 60, ministers from the two governments will meet each other formally.

Chief Minister of Assam, playing the role of a big brother and considering the overall sensitivity of the Northeastern region conceded a meeting to be held in Mizoram and not Assam. This decision attracted both praise and criticism as despite an attack on men in uniform within the constitutional boundaries of Assam, the government decided to travel to Mizoram for the meeting instead of hosting them in Dispur or Silchar. It is also worth mentioning here, that due to the spike in the number of cases, Aizawl is under a blanket lockdown.

However, the security has been beefed up. At 11:20 am, the delegation consisting of cabinet ministers, Ashok Singhal and Atul Bora and other top officials have landed at Lenpui Airport.

Dr. Lalhriatizuali Ralte deputy commissioner of the Aizawl, SP Security L R Dingliana Sailo, Lalrinpuia Chenkual, SDPO are in charge of tight security at Aizawl Club located in Tuikual near Assembly. “The heart of the state is ready to welcome the delegation wholeheartedly with anticipation of peace and harmony,” said a local journalist.

Home Minister, Lalchamliana, Revenue Minister, Lalruatkima Minister, Secretary Home, Lalnghaisaka will attend the meeting from Mizoram’s side.
