3 youths arrested in Tarapur while trying to sell illicit drugs; Heroin and cash recovered during the raid
In another successful campaign against illegal drugs, the Cachar police have nabbed 3 suspects in Tarapur allegedly selling illegal drugs in daylight hours. Based on a secret tip-off, a special police team raided Kalimohan Road in the Tarapur area on Tuesday afternoon. Additional Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Saikia, Tarapur Police Station in-charge Ananda Medhi and Sadar Police Station OC Ditumani Goswami led the raid. They arrested the three accused in possession of drugs and some cash and then brought them to the police station. Illicit heroin, as well as several mobile phones and some cash, were recovered.
Additional Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Saikia said, “Every thana in the district is on a special campaign against illicit drugs under the instructions of the state government. Intel is being collected from various sources on drug traffickers and those who sell them. After receiving the intel, our special task force has been conducting the operations carefully and the culprits are being nabbed. We are appealing to the common public to let us know if they notice any suspicious activity, their identity will be kept completely confidential, that’s our assurance.”
The detained accused are locals and are being interrogated as of now. The police have been trying to figure out how the banned drugs are reaching them. However, in all the cases that have come to light, in each case, only the locales have been arrested, yet the police have not revealed the main source of this drug racket yet. The illicit drugs that are being seized in different parts of the Cachar district are mainly being smuggled into the district from outside the state through international borders. The police are yet to figure out who is involved in this racket and with whom they have links in the Cachar district.
The Additional Superintendent of Police said, “We are trying to find the source by interrogating the detainees in various ways. We also want to get closer to the real source so that all kinds of trafficking in the district can be stopped. But there is still a lot of information that can’t be made public yet. People will come to know when the right time comes.”
The police have recently arrested drug traffickers in several raids that took place in the Tarapur area. Not only in Tarapur but drug traffickers are also being caught in almost every area of the district and large quantities of drugs and other illicit items are being recovered as well.
According to the police department, starting from May 1 to May 31, 19 people were arrested on charges of being involved in drug trafficking. 10 FIRs have been filed against them by the police. 430.12 grams of suspected heroin and 10,347 banned tablets were recovered in the process. Of course, as a result of this ongoing crackdown on illegal drugs, panic among drug traffickers has begun to grow. Besides, those who are consuming these kinds of illicit drugs are also alert now. Many feel that if the campaign continues like this, many young people will eventually stay away from the clutches of drug traffickers. However, more awareness is needed in our society about the harmful aspects of substance abuse.
