Senior journalist Uttam Kumar Shee's house robbed in Silchar
The residence of senior journalist Uttam Kumar Shee, news editor of Samayik Prasanga newspaper, was burgled while he was out of town. The incident occurred at his home on Ashram Road, Silchar, during his absence.
Shee had travelled to Guwahati on Saturday for his son’s examination there and was unable to return early due to a lack of train services on Sunday. After boarding a train on Monday, he arrived in Silchar early Tuesday morning, only to discover his home had been broken into.
The robbers reportedly broke open a window, cut through the iron grill, and stole all the gold ornaments owned by the family. The stolen jewellery, valued at approximately ₹6 lakh, had been collected by Shee’s wife over the years.
“Those were my wife’s ornaments that she had saved and collected over the years since the marriage, and today all is gone,” Shee said, expressing his distress.
A formal complaint has been filed at the National Highway Patrol Post, and the police have launched an investigation into the matter.
