SMCH Scam: Shilpi Rani Barman gets anticipatory bail; Baisya to remain behind bars
Following the old saying, “Prevention is better than cure” doctor Shilpi Rani Barman went to the district court and got herself an anticipatory bail. Many skeletons have already popped out of the wardrobes in Silchar Medical College and Hospital with the investigation making its progress.
Shilpi Rani Barman is one of the prime accused who allegedly was the mastermind overseeing several scams in the government institution. Barman along with few other colleagues allegedly manipulated the food bills, infused corruption in the blood bank for monetary benefits and mismanaged the cash department. Allegations are made that Shilpi Rani Barman along with others, instead of putting the cash in the account used to loan it to people on interest. Mutton, chicken, paneer was frequently billed for but was allegedly never served to the patients. The few hundred crores scam is one of the high profile investigations going on in the state.
The agencies investigating the matter will soon reach Barman’s door who was recently transferred from Silchar Medical College and Hospital to Fakkaruddin Ali Ahmed Hospital in Barpeta where she is deputed as the principal.
On the other hand, her former colleague and renowned doctor, Anindya Sundar Baisya’s lawyer went to district court appealing for bail. The suspended superintendent of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Baisya was denied bail a couple of times by the judicial magistrate. The lawyer’s effort to reach out to the district court did not work either. The court after hearing the case rejected the bail plea meaning doctor Baisya will have to stay behind the bars.
