Last Saturday, a petrol pump in Kalain area witnessed something that the Barak Valley was alien to. At around 10:45 pm, three tribal men went with a 25 litre gallon to fill diesel. The petrol pump as usual had shut at 10 PM, but on request of the the three men, the petrol pump employees agreed to fill their gallon. After filling fuel, when the  pump executives asked for money, instead of cash, the miscreants brought out a revolver.

Shocked and scared, the employees rushed in and managed to lock themselves inside the counter. The miscreants then saw lorry driver Srikanta Dhar, who was sitting there for a while, and shot two rounds of bullets aiming at him.

Both the bullets hit him, and Dhar fell down unconscious on the ground. As per fuel station employees, Dhar was lying down there for about an hour, “Police came and took him to the hospital. We did not know if the miscreants were still present there, and so we did not open the door till the Police arrived,” said an employee. Cachar Police Superintendent Rakesh Roushan also rushed to the spot after hearing the news.
Dhar was declared brought dead by the Hospital authorities. Lorry driver Srikanta Dhar is a resident of Karimganj district’s Bazaricherra area. After postmortem, his dead body was handed over to the family members.
Police sources informed us that one person has been arrested so far and the investigation is on.
