Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee is way more than just the former Prime Minister of India for people of Barak Valley. He is the visionary who made Silchar dream of a roadway, which would connect it to the far west of the country. The historic Silchar – Saurashtra speech is fresh in almost every mind and respecting the history and sentiment attached, the State Government is set to propose a road-renaming to the Central Government. The plan is to rename Silchar-Saurashtra Mahasadak as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Marg. The plan has already being vetted and supported by many in the political fraternity.
Yesterday, addressing an assembly of people and media representatives, forest and environmemt, fishery and excise minister Parimal Shuklabaidya announced that the state government is working on it will soon meet union minister of transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on this. He also mentioned that the work is progress. There are some controversial areas where the work is halted, he agreed, but at the same time he assured that he will try to mend the bridges.
Suklabaidya made it clear that the state Government will support the centre whenever needed. He is going to travel to Haflong with BJP’s district presiden Kaushik Roy to take a stalk of the situation there.
The completion of the work in progress Highway development plan will indeed be a dream come true moment for the resident of Barak Valley as it is certain to make travel much easier for the residents tired and worried of Shillong road. Also, it can create many jobs and boost employment in the region. Highway corridors has come as a blessings for real estate in many regions and many townships were built around the multi-lane roadway.
