Silchar Airport: Air India captain initiates emergency landing after detecting smoke post take off

It turns out to be a narrow escape for 140+ on board Air India Flight AI754. The bird took off from Kumbirgram airport today at 7:30 am and around 8:00 am, the captain detected smoke. Immediately, he contacted the concerned authority to seek permission for an emergency landing at Silchar Airport.

Captain Siddharth Ghosh, used his experience to navigate the flight back to the runaway safely. The aircraft suffered a hydraulic leakage in landing gear and that is why, when captain Ghosh touched down, it was not just like any other landing.

“It was a technical failure and the Air India team is looking into it. All passengers are safe and there is no reason to panic,” informed P K Gorai, Director, Silchar Airport.

As soon as the bird touched down, Indian Air Force triggered its emergency standard operating procedures. Two engines of Fire Brigade, two ambulances rushed to the spot.

The aircraft is still at the runaway and so the parking bay remains occupied. Though the official announcement is still awaited, but there is a possibility that all remaining flights for day might just get canceled.
