Silchar airport back to service, 44 passengers land today

After spending 62 days in lockdown, Silchar Airport on Tuesday got back to service, after Spicejet flight SG8152 flew 44 passengers from Guwahati to Silchar.

SpiceJet Boeing SG-8152 landed at Silchar airport at 1:56 pm from New Delhi via Guwahati carrying 44 passengers which included two minors. Later they were screened at the health desk which was set up at the airport. Dr Arup Patoa handled the screening facilities at the airport. After the completion of the screening process and collection of luggage, maintaining social distancing 30 passengers of Cachar District were taken to the quarantine center at the National Institute of Technology Silchar, where their swab sample was taken.

The passengers of Karimganj and Hailakandi districts were taken to their District by bus amidst security where they will be kept at the quarantine center.

It can be mentioned here that flights to & from Kolkata are not operational as the West Bengal Government did not agree for flight resumption up to 27th May. Accordingly, no flights will operate between Silchar and Kolkata till tomorrow.

Earlier today, Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli visited the Kumbhigram Airport to check preparedness on receiving passengers. She highlighted that, all passengers will be screened at the entrance of the airport and only asymptomatic passengers will be allowed to board the plane. She pressed that passengers have to cooperate with maintaining social distancing and luggage sanitization.
