Silchar Airport gets Ambulift; "Will be a boon for patients and passengers with disabilities," PK Gorai, Airport director

Silchar Airport is taking baby steps towards advancement. The tiny little airport that remained under the blanket of ignorance for years, is one of the most important airports in the northeastern zone. Daily birds to Kolkata and Guwahati, connect the zone that includes several other states to different parts of the country.
One of the frequent flying cohorts is the patients and aged population of the Barak Valley. For them, there is another advancement.

Silchar Aiport has procured an Ambulift and Airport Director PK Gorai has informed that it is already operational. “It is an add-on to our infrastructure at Silchar Airport. The Ambulift will be a big boon for patients and passengers with disabilities,” added Airport director, Gorai.

Ambulift ALS-U is designed to transport passengers with disabilities and their attendants to and from aircrafts, as well as to assist them with boarding and disembarking.

The passenger cabin is fitted with lights and a ventilation system. There is also an intercom available inside the cabin to ensure communication between passengers and an ambulift operator. Additionally, the cabin is equipped with restraining systems for stretchers and wheelchairs, a cabinet and seating places for attendants. Non-slip grip handrails are installed on both sides inside of the cabin. A rear platform allows for the installation of a special device to transfer stretchers from the platform into the cabin. Foldable rail guards are installed all around the platform.

Ambulifts can be equipped with climate-control systems, as well as special needs wheelchairs.
