MLA Dilip Paul’s cousin Subrata Paul slips while trying to board a running train; dies on the spot
Just a millimeter off the mark, and the 55-year-old is no more. Such was his misfortune today. Businessman Subrata Paul was heading back home sitting on Guwahati – Silchar fast passenger train. On the way, when the train stopped at New Haflong Railway Station, Paul got down to feel the fresh hillside air. At around 11 AM the train started moving from the station and Paul somehow missed the whistle. When his attention moved back towards the train, he noticed it had already gathered some speed. Yet, he chased it in attempt to get on the running train but instead went under it.
The passengers on board pulled the chain and the train was stopped after moving a few metres but by then it was too late. The train dragged Paul some distance and as he was pulled up on the platform, passengers notice his back was squashed and there was no sign of life in him. Paul is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son, his residence is located in A K Chanda road, right opposite the office of Jagannath Travels. His body was sent to Haflong Hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, his son has already left for Haflong to receive the body.
It is worth mentioning here that Subrata Paul is a maternal cousin of MLA and former Deputy Speaker of Assam, Dilip Paul and Managing Director of Dainik Prantojyoti and BTN Nilay Paul. This sad news has brought a state of mourning in Silchar
