Silchar DSA gets its own gym, "Will be free for players associated with DSA," Bijendra Prasad Singh

A new feather was added to Silchar DSA’s crown as a state-of-the-art gymnasium was inaugurated at the DSA on Sunday. Prominent businessman and DSA general committee Pranay Banik sponsored this Gymnasium to DSA. Silchar DSA got involved in many controversies and has been in the news for wrong reasons; the governing committee and the recognition of Silchar DSA by the Assam Olympic Association were questioned. But the inauguration of this modern Gymnasium will heal the wounds a bit. The Gymnasium has been dedicated to Prafulla Chandra Banik, late father of Pranay Banik.

The new Gymnasium room is located at the entrance of DSA, and the entrance gate has also been refurbished.

Amitabha Sharma, an architect from Guwahati, contributed a significant part to constructing the modern gymnasium hall in DSA. It will function under the physical branch of DSA. Former Secretary Subimal Dhar initiated the process of the Gymnasium, informed Bijendra Prasad Singh, current secretary of DSA.

The proposal of the Gymnasium was passed in the GB meeting under Subimal Dhar. DSA took a loan of 14 lac to purchase the equipment with the decision of the DSA governing body. Rupees 13.8 lac was spent in purchasing the equipment.

Sudarshan Sarada, the retailer from whom all the equipment is being purchased, contributed gym equipment of 1.30 lac and dedicated it to his maternal grandfather. This will be a commercial gymnasium. However, the Gymnasium would be available free of cost for associated players of DSA.

Those who have represented the district team will get a 50% off in Gym charge. DSA will make the final decision regarding this soon.

This Gymnasium would have been built much earlier, say Bijendra. But the pandemic halted the progress. The construction of this Gymnasium is being completed under the tenure of Bijendra Prasad Singh. Significant infrastructural changes took place in DSA under Singh’s tenure. DSA has a shining conference hall, an administrative office with corporate look, guest room, sports library cum archive now it has a gymnasium. During the pandemic period, all these infrastructural changes were accomplished under Bijendra Prasad Singh. But the list doesn’t end here; DSA would soon get a 40-bed hostel.
