Silchar DSA provides aid to cricketer Raju Das from its "Player Welfare Fund"; Star batsman undergoing treatment in Patna

Silchar District Sports Association transferred Rs 10,000 to the district’s star cricketer, Raju Das who is currently undergoing treatment in Patna. He had shoulder surgery and the stitches are yet to be dismantled. However, under immense financial stress, Raju Das had almost decided to return without completing his treatment. That is when the DSA stepped in.

“I am grateful to Badsha Da (General Secretary of DSA, Bijendra Prasad Singh) for sanctioning the funds. My account was almost nil and in such a scenario, the fund will do me a world of good,” said Raju Das. However, it might not be enough for him to see through the rehabilitation process which is essential for him to be able to play cricket again with full fitness.

Das had written to the DSA seeking financial help before he had left for Patna as per the recommendation of the general secretary. But it took time to sanction the funds as the DSA had to follow a procedure that involves the consent of six top officials. Bijendra Prasad Singh tabled the proposal to sanction financial aid to the Coach of the academy and cricketer Raju Das, which got eventually approved.

“There are some rules and regulations as per the constitution of the Players’ Welfare Fund. I alone cannot sanction the fund and that is why I had asked Raju to submit all his treatment-related documents. He did it and accordingly, the proposal was tabled,” shared Bijendra Prasad Singh. He urged Das to continue with his treatment as this is a major step and can be a deciding factor in his career.
