Silchar DSA: Sportsmen deprived in the Game of Thrones

After the release of voter’s list three days ago, politics has become heated around the upcoming BGM. Because in this year’s BGM, all leaders and officials from the ruling and opposition parties have become General Council members. Not only schools and colleges, names of ruling party people have also been sent from A category clubs. It is clear from the voter’s list that the ruling party has entered the field with all intent and purpose to capture the throne of DSA.

Apart from Silchar MP and MLA, Lakhipur and Udharbond MLA; former BJP MLA Aminul Haque Laskar, Cachar district BJP President Bimalendu Roy, former President Uday Shankar Goswami have also become General Council members. Also present are Silchar Development Authority Chairman Manjul Dev alongwith three General Secretaries of BJP – Kanad Purkayastha, Gopal Roy and Abhrajit Chakraborty. Treasurer Golap Roy is also there. Also in the list are BJP workers like Prabal Pal Choudhury, Mithun Roy, Basudev Sharma, Kajal Roy and Shantanu Roy. The opposition camp is not lagging behind in the struggle to seize power. So on one hand, when politicians from the ruling and opposition parties have come to capture the throne of Silchar District Sports Association, the real sportspersons who are associated with the field are being left out.

There are almost no sportspersons in the voter’s list. Explosive allegations have already been made against several clubs on the issue of sending members to DSA. Several clubs have been accused of selling club memberships for money which has caused controversy. Those whose names have been left out are openly lashing at the club’s top officials. It is also heard that many of those whose names have been left out are thinking of severing ties with their beloved clubs. The bad news for the Silchar sports fraternity is that not only the smaller clubs, many A category clubs have also not sent their genuine members to the DSA. Some have sent members in exchange of money while others have sent members to Silchar DSA under the influence of the ruling party. Ultimately it has damaged the sports arena.

In the future, these General Council members will participate in the various meetings of Silchar District Sports Association. The larger question is, how much will those who went just to win the DSA elections work for the betterment of sports? How much time will they give? Because it has been seen in the past that when there is a BCCI or AC tournament or match in Silchar, only a few officials work with responsibility. The number of voters of Silchar District Sports Association is 227. But if we leave three or four people, none of them can be seen in any event. These three or four officials of Silchar District Sports Association manage everything. This is the actual situation of Silchar sports arena.

This time also, the names of several players are not in the voter’s list because their own clubs did not send their names. This list also includes Bishal Tiwari of Itkhola. He is the Cricket Secretary of Itkhola AC. He is also associated with another Itkhola club named Itkhola Sporting. Itkhola Sporting won the second division cricket championship last season. He was one of the senior members of that team. But for the upcoming BJM, the names of Cachar BJP President Bimalendu Roy and former President Uday Shankar Goswami have been sent from Itkhola Sporting as General Council members. The number of Bishal Tiwaris who have been deprived by their own clubs is not less. Many don’t want to come in public after getting deprived because they think it is shameful. Despite working for the club all year round and working for sports they have been deprived. But the real truth is, this shame is not only theirs, this shame also belongs to Silchar sports. Those who have become General Council members today will disappear from the field after June 25. Again their emergence will happen in the General Meeting of Silchar District Sports Association. This has been happening and will continue.
