Silchar Inaugurates Spectacular Khel Maharan 2023 Sports Event

A massive statewide sports event, titled “Khel Maharan 2023,” was inaugurated in Silchar on March 2, 2024. The aim of the event is to encourage young people to participate in various sports activities, spanning from rural to urban areas. As many as 32 districts participated in this Khel Maharan on Saturday at Silchar DSA Ground.

The inauguration was conducted by MP Silchar, Rajdeep Roy, accompanied by MLA Koushik Roy, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, DC Rohan Kumar Jha, and various other dignitaries. Among the dignitaries, former MLA Silchar and newly returned in BJP Dilip Paul was also present.

Speaking to the media, MP Rajdeep Roy praised the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, for initiating steps that would encourage the youth of the nation to be more involved in sports activities. He believes that with such events, an ecosystem surrounding sports may be created, eventually leading to international medals for our youth.

The District Commissioner of Cachar, Rohan Kumar Jha, announced that a grand finale would take place on March 5. He expressed his excitement about the event and stated that Cachar is fortunate to host such a prestigious occasion. He hopes that this event will have a positive impact on the youth.

During the inaugural event, many dignitaries shared their viewpoints and praised the CM of Assam and PM of India, expressing gratitude for organizing events that would encourage boys and girls from rural and urban Assam to participate in sports and highlight hidden talent.

People from 32 districts participated in the inaugural event and presented various cultural performances. A pledge was also taken by everyone, and tricoloured nitrogen balloons were released into the sky to kickstart the event.

The Khel Maharan 2023 will continue until March 5, with participants from across the state competing in “Kho Kho” in this state-level sports competition. It is being labelled as the biggest sports event in Assam.
