Silchar Medical College becomes accredited centre for Corona Virus testing

In keeping with the demand of more testing, the Indian Council of Medical Research has accredited Silchar Medical College and Hospital lab to test for Covid-19.

At present, there are only 3 COVID-19 testing lab in Assam – GMCH, RMRC Dibrugarh and JMCH Jorhat – with Silchar Medical College enlisted from today.

Confirming this, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sharma wrote on Twitter “Happy to share that from today Silchar Medical College has also become accredited centre for Corona virus testing. Sample test has been done and sent for confirmation to NIV Pune. It will be the fourth such facility in Assam after GMCH, RMRC Dibrugarh and JMCH Jorhat.”

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared COVID-19 as a pandemic. Globally, over 167,511 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported and 6,606 deaths have taken place across 152 countries. India reported 4 deaths till now while 14 have successfully 14 recovered.
