Silchar Medical College scam: Voluntary Blood Donors' Forum demands impartial enquiry
From the last few days, the Silchar Medical College and Hospital scam has been a matter of concern. The authorities have been duly investigating the matter.
In certain cases the officials have been replaced and in cases where found guilty, they have been already sent behind the bars.
The Barak Valley Blood Donors Forum (BVBDF) at a press meet today said that “if any authority or doctor are found guilty after proper investigation, we would want them to get punishment’. The members also shared they had approached many authorities regarding this from the last three-four month but none of them showed any concern.
Recently a circular was passed on 28 May by Dr. Rajiv Biswas of SMCH stating that they are temporary not accepting any donor cards. This circular created a lot of problems among the voluntary blood donors who were not able to get even a single unit of blood. The donor card assures that they get a unit of blood whenever they require.
BVBDF has been working with SMCH since 2002 and has provided them with more than 50,000 units of blood till date. Every year nearly 3000 units are given to them.
Mohitosh (Ashu) Paul, chairperson BVBDF in the press meed said, “In the past years whenever there was crisis of blood, the hospital has contacted us. We have organised many camps to meet up the urgent requirements but this time rather discussing with us they directly passed the circular which is not acceptable. We want them to take the circular back.”
It has been brought to light that many units of blood were found missing from the stock at blood bank as their issue register doesn’t have the record.
The forum declared today that they will not be collaborating with SMCH anymore until the dispute is over and the circular is taken back.
Sabyasache Rudra Gupta from Karimganj committee; Ashu Paul and Karunamoyee Paul from Silchar committee; Shikta Paul, Sweta Roy and Ananya Choudhury from Women’s Cell and Paritosh Chandra Dutta from Hilakandi committee were present in the meeting today.
