Silchar MLA Dilip Paul resigns from the post of deputy speaker, says "I was getting suffocated"

What looked inevitable, has finally happened. Member of legislative assembly from Silchar constituency Dilip Paul, has resigned as the state assembly’s deputy speaker. The BJP leader won 2016 state elections with a huge margin, and has been serving as the deputy speaker since the very beginning of the government.
Well today, happens to be his marriage anniversary, and on Facebook, he uploaded a post in Bengali, which translates to, “38 years back on this day I started this journey of life with my wife, in cricketing language today we are 39 not out, I don’t know when I will get out either.” While it was a very romantic marriage anniversary post, what came later is something that the political fraternity has been speculating since a long time.

Paul added in his post, “Today, I visited Kamakhya Temple and on this auspicious day, completed another noble deed. I have resigned from the post of deputy speaker. Being tied with diplomatic protocols, I was getting suffocated, I had informed about my state of mind to honourable chief minister several time through letters as well as verbal communications but no actions were taken. I am grateful to the chief minister and the cabinet for the last 23 months and 6 days, that I served as the deputy speaker.”
Paul is a heavyweight in Assam politics and one of the biggest names in South Assam. The post of deputy speaker kept him away from active state politics and that according to sources was bothering Paul. Now, after he has resigned, it will be interesting to see what role he plays in Sarbananda Sonowal’s ministry.
